One of the most important decisions you can make for the care, comfort and health of your baby is your choice in mattress.
Babies and toddlers spend 10-14 hours a day sleeping and playing on a bassinette or cot mattress. A child’s every breath inhales air no more than six inches away from it.  As such, for the first few years of a child’s life, the mattress is the single most prominent object in the child’s environment.
Conventional synthetic mattresses (foam and innerspring) are made using an array of toxic chemicals and more parents are becoming aware of the negative effects these chemicals are having on the health of their children.
In the shops child’s mattress label may tell you what this mattress is made of, it doesn’t not tell you what those materials are made from, because if it will you will end up with list of very dangerous and harmful chemicals.

•    Polyurethane foam, for example, is made from a base of petrochemicals combined with a staggering array of additional chemical ingredients used as stabilizers, catalysts, surfactants, and blowing agents. Each of these chemicals is associated with a host of environmental problems as well as numerous health hazards. Polyurethane foam is extremely flammable. To combat this hazard, toxic industrial fire retardants are added.  The most common chemical fire retardant used to treat polyurethane foam has been pentaBDE, a toxin asociated with hyperactivity and neurobehavioural alterations. PentaBDE is not bound to the foam, so it leaches out into the surrounding air;. PentaBDE has recently been banned in Europe. It has also been banned by the State of California as of 2006. However, there is currently no planned government action to recall the millions of baby mattresses presently in use that contain pentaBDE.
•    Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), the surface material used in nearly all baby mattresses, is widely considered to be one of the most toxic and environmentally unfriendly plastics in use today.
•    Phthalates, associated with asthma, reproductive effects, and cancer, make up 30% by weight of the PVC surface of a typical baby mattress. The FDA and Consumer Product Safety Commision have issued general warnings regarding the use of phthalates, yet the PVC surfaces of baby mattresses still contain phthalates.
•    The PVC surface of a typical baby mattress is also treated with toxic fire-retardant chemicals such as antimony, arsenic and phosphorous. Various biocides are often addes as well.

At INNATURE we are especially proud of our natural cot and bassinet  mattresses and bedding range for babies and children, “Little Kiwi”. Our mission is to offer to all “liitle kiwis” a natural alternative to synthetic and unhealthy mattresses, which dominate local market. We believe that little ones deserve the safest start in life. A baby’s lungs and nervous and digestive system are still developing and more parents are chooseing to create and mainteain healthy , free from toxic chemicals and electromagnetic stress environment for they children.
The natural materials we use in our mattresses have been specifically chosen for their unique health promoting properties, which all allow good air circulation and provide comfortable support for the body.
•    100% Natural Latex
Natural rubber latex is made from 100% natural rubber extracted from the Hevea Brasiliensis tree, a renewable resource grown in Malaysia.Latex is bio-degradable and environmentally friendly. The latex we use in our mattresses has no fillers or additives compared to about 30% inert fillers contained in other foams. It is recognised for its' therapeutic properties and its ability to provide orthopedic support. Latex naturally adjusts to the contours of your body, providing gentle support that maintains proper spinal alignment without restricting capillary blood flow. This reduces tossing and turning and allows a deeper, more restful sleep. Latex is hypo-allergenic, and breathes to keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Bacteria, mildew, and mold cannot live in latex.
Latex can last up to 20 years.
•    Coconut husk fibre rubberized with natural latex
Coconut fiber is obtained from the fibrous husk of the coconut from the coconut palm. It has a high lignin content and thus a low cellulose content, as a result of which it is resilient, strong and highly durable. Sri Lanka produces 36% of the total world brown fibre output. That is where we source this sustainable material from. The fibres are compressed together with natural latex glue giving it a rubbery texture (rubberised coir). The coco fibre has excellent moisture and air permeability properties which keeps the mattress internally dry. It is also very strong and durable, yet extremely elastic, making it a great addition to a mattress to provide firm support for the spinal column.
Our coco fibre is not fumigated when entering the country because of its special but still natural production process.
•    NZ wool
The properties of real wool make it a perfect material to provide a dry and safe sleep in New Zealand climate. Wool fibers are hygroscopic. This means wool has the power to readily absorb and give off moisture. It can for instance, absorb moisture up to one-third of its own weight. Synthetic fibers can only absorb 2-3 per cent of moisture before they begin to feel wet. It also naturally retards fire as it is harder to ignite than most synthetic and cotton fibers used in equivalent products. We use in our mattresses and other products New Zealand wool from South Island, bonded to 500g density. It is washed and processed in very friendly to nature way. You still can smell the sheep, but only just a little... :-)
•    Organic cotton45% / 55%hemp fabric
This mix of organic cotton and hemp was specially choosen by us for making natural mattress covers for the New Zealand climate.
Our research has shown that pure organic cotton was not robust enough to perform well in our climate and gets moldy to easily in the winter. But woven in combination with hemp, which is mold resistant and has good anti-bacterial qualities known for centuries, it makes a perfect lasting fabric for covering our mattresses and other sleeping products, like mattress protectors, pillows and duvets.

We combine all this fibres to create different fimness natural mattresses.
